Recently, the license called “Blockchain Configuration for the secure delivery of content”, developed by Disney, was published in the United States Patent Office, in order to stop the illegal reproduction (piracy) of its content.
The pioneer of cartoons, created this method in 2018, which prevents movies from being pirated, making use of blockchain technology.
The innovative software uses security mechanisms that eliminate the risk of files being leaked in the process of sending them for streaming platforms or for publishing in physical format, thus preventing piracy proactively rather than reactively.
It is important to note that this mechanism generates public keys to decrypt the contents of the movies, which were saved through the use of Blockchain, so that even if the files were filtered, it would be practically impossible to see the content.
In this way, Disney shows its concern to eradicate piracy that hurts the global economy and represents a threat to innovation and intellectual property rights, while calling for a legislative effort and that the fight be more effective.
It is worth mentioning that official figures report that in Mexico, 8 out of 10 people consume illegal products, which translates into an economic impact of more than 43 billion pesos per year. This reality has resulted in the country being on the list of commercial partners that do not protect or enforce intellectual property rights in the United States.
