Last week, a song generated by artificial intelligence (AI), which used the cloned voices of the renowned artists Drake and The Weeknd, went viral through social media. The song, called Heart On My Sleeve, has generated a wide debate on the legal and ethical implications of this type of creations in the music industry, due to its revolutionary method of composition and production, as well as issues concerning authorship, the rights of performers and producers, and the legitimacy of this particular content.

In response to the impact and popularity of this fake collaboration, Universal Music Group has pointed out that the song infringes copyright laws. For this reason, it requested the media and streaming platforms to remove such content, arguing that the authorization of the artists involved for its distribution was never obtained.

In turn, the author of the IA work -who identifies himself as @ghostwriter-, announced that neither Drake nor The Weeknd were involved in the development of the song, clarifying that the responsibility for the creation of this production lies solely with those who manipulated the AI algorithm and the software used to generate new content. It should be noted that with such statements @ghostwriter could protect itself against a potential lawsuit.

Against this backdrop, it is noted that although AI could democratize and diversify musical creation by providing access to new forms of composition, its misuse could lead to possible copyright violations and situations of unauthorized exploitation of the image and talent of artists.

In addition to the above, the question arises as to whether it is necessary to establish new regulations governing the use of AI in the entertainment industry: should artists receive compensation for this type of content that imitates their style and voice, even if they have not participated in the creation of the work? Is it possible to legislate the use of AI for the creation of art and music, with the aim of ensuring a fair distribution of benefits in a constantly evolving creative ecosystem?

The viral success of this song reflects the immense potential of artificial intelligence in music and art. However, it also highlights the need to address the legal issues linked to its use, in order to protect the rights and interests of the artists involved.
