In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has had an undeniable boom, this development has created the need to regulate its use and application.

In response to this reality, the bill for the Ethical Regulation of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics was recently presented before the Congress, which seeks to establish a regulatory framework that limits the use and development of AI, and at the same time pretends to protect human rights of people in cases that might imply inappropriate use of this technology.

It should be noted that the first proposal of this new law is to create a new chamber called the Mexican Council of Ethics for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CMETIAR, for its acronym in Spanish), which will be responsible for analyzing the
ethical protocols surrounding the implementation of systems or solutions based on AI, overseeing that the official Mexican regulations surrounding this technology are complied with and making annual reports on the results of this monitoring.

Faced with this scenario, the question is: Does this bill for the Ethical Regulation of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, really cover the existing legal gaps in the implementation of AI in Mexico?
